The PSAT, or Preliminary SAT, is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It serves as a practice test for the SAT and can qualify students, primarily juniors, for the National Merit Scholarship Program and other scholarships. The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital test offered in October.

The night before the test, put the study materials aside and calm down. You've got this!

Tips for success on the SAT

Don't wait to the last minute and try to cram for the SAT. Start early and set a steady study pace leading up the test.
Understand the Test Format
Become familiar with the test. What types of questions are asked? What is the format of the test? What are the content areas covered? Etc.
Practice Time Management
Use practice tests to get a sense of the timing for the SAT. Anticipate which portions of the test may require more time and practice budgeting your time accordingly.
Work to Develop Strong Reading and Math Skills
Make use of practice questions, study guides, and practice tests. Practice, practice, practice.
Learn Test Taking Strategies
Focus on areas of weakness. Learn to eliminate incorrect responses. Be confident to make educated guesses vs. leaving answers blank.
Manage Anxiety
Try using positive affirmations to reinforce your self-confidence. Remind yourself of your preparation and capabilities, focusing on the process rather than fixating on potential outcomes. Consider, establishing a pre-test routine that includes calming activities, whether it's listening to soothing music or taking a short walk.
