Career Prep opportunities are for high schools students.
Career Prep for Sophomores
Students will explore the knowledge and skills necessary for success in today’s workplace. The class covers such areas as: Preparing for work, working on the job, career planning, success skills, managing your money and independent living. Students will be using the computer to go on the Choices Program and other important websites. Students will also be involved in such activities as portfolio building and job shadowing.
JMG 9, 10, & 11
JMG’s Multi-Year program gives 9th – 11th grade students a chance to better themselves in a variety of ways. It is the goal of the Multi-Year program to make sure that all students are passing their core curriculum courses and that those students actively involve themselves in community service, social events, and career and leadership development.
Acceptance Criteria: Candidates must be willing and able to participate in every phase of the program and not have extreme behavioral issues. Other criteria include:
School staff recommendation
Qualified by in-school advisory board
Interview and selection by JMG Specialist
Must Want, Need and be able to Benefit
Clear potential to succeed in school environment
Not being served by articulated programming, advocacy, etc.
JMG 12
Evaluate options for career paths focusing on identified personal interests. Prepare finalization of post-secondary plans based on research of chosen career path while exploring back-up options. Determine (using JMG’s Career Maps) required education/certification/training needed to pursue a career path. Plan for financial needs to pursue career plans and develop budgeting skills based on career path’s salary.
Accounting I
The course is designed to teach the student how to sort, record and summarize financial information in an orderly and systematic way. Study progresses from a sole proprietorship to partnership to a corporation.
E.L.O. (Extended Learning Opportunity)
Students in good standing, with instructor approval after completing an application process, can participate in an extended learning opportunity that could be volunteer or paid, in an internship or employment placement. Placements can fall during or after school hours as a case by case determination. This course is a cooperative learning experience between student, employer and instructor as a means to connect aspirations to a plan after high school, which potentially could lead to continued employment after high school. Students are expected to fulfill written work along with their field experience.
