This unit covers a range of Maine Early Learning and Development standards focused on numeracy and operations (mathematical practices, counting and cardinality cluster, operations and algebraic thinking), geometric reasoning (geometry), and statistical reasoning (measurement and data).
Unit content includes:
Math Practices
use words to show understanding of order and position (top, bottom, left, right, behind, in front of, back, front, beside, etc.)
recognize and duplicate AB pattern (red/blue, red/blue; star/triangle, star/triangle, etc.)
subitize to determine how many (dots on dice, fingers) up to 5
Counting and Cardinality
practice one-to-one correspondence with increasing accuracy - counting objects up to 10
practice counting in sequence to 20 and beyond
recognize and name numbers 0-10
sort objects into subgroups (colors, sizes, shapes)
identify and name 10 colors
names the number of objects counting up to 10
Geometry
identify and name 7 shapes (square, circle, triangle, ovel, diamond, rectangle, hexagon, etc.)
sort items based on shapes
