This year's Pre-K screening will begin on Friday, May 8th, 2026.
E-mails will be sent to families who have returned an application packet by the deadline (April 3rd). In that email, families will be invited to call Winslow Elementary School (207-872-1962) to schedule a screening appointment. Screening appointments generally last for 30 minutes.
What Does Pre-K Screening Look Like?
Each pre-screening appointment typically lasts 30 minutes.
Children will be assessed independently while parents wait in a designated area.
Children will rotate between teachers to be assessed in the following areas:
Basic concepts include such topics as:
color identification
letter naming
letter-sound correspondance
identifying basic body parts (head, nose, ears, etc.)
naming common objects
counting
problem solving
Both gross and fine motor skills may be assessed. Examples include:
hopping
standing on one leg
skipping
drawing simple shapes
Examples include:
articulation
labeling
grammar concepts
Families will be notified of acceptance to the program by the end of May, 2026. Once slots in the program are filled, families will be put on a waiting list. Families on the waiting list will be contacted if slots become available.
