This unit covers a range of Maine Early Learning and Development standards focused on scientific practices and reasoning (exploration, application of science concepts and practices), Life Science (organisms: structures and processes), Physical Science (light, matter, sound), and Earth/Space Science (weather, seasons).
Unit content includes:
Life Science
Animals (penguins, bears, squirrels, spiders, dinosaurs, frogs, insects, aquatic animals, etc.)
learn animal or habitat specific vocabulary words (water proof, blubber, regurgitate, hibernation, migration, camouflage, adaptation, life cycles, carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, fossils, characteristics, paleontologist, etc.)
explore similarities and differences among species
Physical Science
light (reflection, sources, shadows)
states of matter (solid, liquid, gas)
sound (waves) (what makes sounds change?)
magnetism
Earth & Space Science
weather (types, fog, clouds, rainbows, seasonal, etc.)
seasons (months, differences between seasons and impact on our activities)
finding fossils in the Earth
